First Venture out of 2019

Updated: Sep 9, 2021

January 2nd 2019

After checking on the weather forecast for the morning of the 2nd January, I planned my mornings photography around Buttermere and Crummock Water, as the weather was forecast to be cold and little wind.

So I wrapped up warm and set off around a hour before sunrise, upon arriving at Buttermere, I headed for the far end of the lake to scout around for suitable images. The lake was flat calm, with great reflections on view, however the sunrise never materialised how I had hoped.

I captured a couple of images, one of Fleetwith Pike, & Haystacks reflecting in the waters surface, and one of the Pine Trees reflecting in the water, apart from this there was not much on offer as the sun was still behind the fells.

I then decided to drive up to Newlands Valley to have a scout around, upon arriving I was disappointed to see that the sun was still below the high fells, so I decided to have a short hike up to Moss Falls, here I captured a couple of long exposure images of the falls.

After a warm cup of coffee, I then retraced my steps to Crummock Water to have a look around the end of the lake, here I captured a couple of images of the submerged boat which was frozen over, and of the rocks that protrude into the lake.

Overall I was pleased with the images I captured during the 4 hours that I was out.
